Origin Story

Mamra is not a size grade — it is a variety, and a stubborn one. The trees are grown on upland orchards without the heavy irrigation of commodity almond, so the kernel comes out smaller, denser, irregular in shape and noticeably oilier. That oil is the reason confectioners and traditional sweet makers pay attention to it: it behaves differently in paste and in roasting. Acreage is limited and the season is short, so Mamra is bought by the crop, not off the shelf.
